I have been wanting to build a xs650 for a long time now and the time has finally come. I scored this today for 400 bucks. Its not running but it turns over and has good compression so im so stocked to start this build, thinking of doing a 70s chopper with king queen and a bunch of other ideas ive come up with over the years.

I would get it running first before you butcher it. That will save trying not fuck up your new paint ect. once its done. Not a fan of King and queen seat my self not in the seventies or now your choice its your dream machine.

well im completely rebuilding the motor and plan to rephase so im not going bother with getting it running as is ill test run the engine after im done building it out of the frame

The rebuild is probably a good idea. After looking at the pictures the bike looks like it has seen some bad weather. Since this is your first 650 getting it to run is sill a good exercise in learning about the bike. Welcome to the site by the way.

Hey thanks Scabber, ya the bike hasnt been started in 10 to 15 years and didnt come with any carbs so a complete rebuild is in order. I am pretty well verse in the xs650 and engines in genereal as i build race engines for a living so i feel ill be fine without getting it started first but i do plan on getting it running after the re-build before it goes back in the frame

SO I started the tare down today and was surprised how a lot of things were in such good shape. I am not using any of the stock parts besides the front half of the frame and the engine so if anyone needs anything just let me know.

You should have no problem at all since you have the knowledge and the tools. A lot of members don't. The 650 is a easy motor to work on. I'm doing another one stock 650 CC with a #1 cam Budget build. Post some pictures once you get the
e motor apart. Front cam chain guide usually bad. Your off to a good start the bike has the parts for the build.

Thanks scabber ill definitely post pics as i go i hope to get to the engine this week and get my crank and cam to Huge to work his magic. Ive thought about doing the rephase work myself but Huge has obviously mastered it so why not have the master do it.

Heres some pics for Dan, Let me know what you think.

Wish i could buy an XS650, running or not, for $400. Where i live id be lucky to get a set of spoked wheels for that.... :(

ya i was really lucky to find it on ebay and i put the lowest bid in as possible and ended up winning it. The guy i bought it from was actually really pissed to hand it over to me for that cause he thought it was going to go for at least double

Heads up; looks a lot like a 76 front end on a 77 frame, Well the TANK is a 77 anyways, so..... Better be fairly sure the frame/neck ain't bent.

Hi.I would really like the little round reflectors off the rear taillight assembly if you would be willing to send them to the UK, please let me know .Thanks

Mark my words - some day you WILL regret having gotten your sawzall jollies on such a nice Standard model.

I have rode both hard tail and bikes with a rear suspension. The hard tail came from the factory 1955. I would not cut the rear suspension off the bike myself. especially if the roads are bad,

hey thanks for the advice on the neck ggg ill trake a look at it tomorrow, yellowdog if you want to look up what shipping would be from 05446 i have no problem sending them out if you pay for it do you have paypal? and scabber i have three other bikes that have suspension on them so its time to build a hartail
