Contamination or Oil on Alternator Brushes

That's pretty much what mine goes down to. You can add the switch if you like. I plan to add an older factory right side handlebar switch assembly to the '83 I'm working on. I have all the wiring pretty much worked out. I want to do it without having to run extra wires all over the bike. I have it figured out so I can use existing wires on the bike already, ones freed up by removal of some of the safety items like the RLU and the clutch switch.
 
Probably a fresh new battery would give improvement. One like 5T's might let you move back to the bright lights :)

Put up a diagram when you get finished. I considered that, but opted for a cheaper special switch. With the headlight switched you can solder a jumper wire across the headlight part of that double relay board, so you're still good at such time as the relay fails :)
