Above the seal in the case is a gusset made into the case. Put a smallish flat blade screwdriver between the seal and the case, under the gusset. Tap the screwdriver in about 1/16" and lever outward. Repeat this three or four times as the seal comes out further and further. Don't drive it in farther than about 1/16". If you drive it farther in, you can see it putting too much stress on the case if you try to lever. It has to be done a little at a time.
After I discovered this I had the seal out in 30 seconds, after spending half a day with it, scratching my head...
