After I instaled the Pamco I set the timing. Then I road the bike around the block a couple times. Then I let the bike cool off ate supper. then I wanted to go back out for a spin. I put the cover back on the left side but stupidly didn't put the plug wire back on. It didn't start, 4 tries no start then I noticed the plug wire off. I turned off the key. Said some choice words called myself a few names Put the wire on and the bike fired up. I went for a ride the bike runs good till 4500 rpm then it starts to break up.

question 1: Is the Pamco unit a work or don't work thing.

question 2:What should the plug gap be?

Pamcos can be fried if the plugs are not grounded, also if the key/ignition is on & the motor not started, they can/will burn out the circuit board.
The Pamco either works or doesn't, timing (advance/retard) is controlled by your mechanical advance unit.
If your motor runs up to 4.5K, I would check the mechanical advance rod is not binding in the cam bushes, then start looking at coil & plug cap resistances.
