'72 had two different styles according to Yamaha.
Any of these should work for you doug.

The cap is from a 73-75 Tanks. Been modified to fit onto a 72 Tank.

Hey Wer, I assume your going off boats.net. I have been saying for a long time that the part no cross referenced to other models has to be double checked with other sources. I have found a lot of mistakes, especially between the early 70-73 and early Standard model.
I always cross referenced with Biker.net and since i downloaded all the parts manuals from thexsxcafe i also use them as a cross reference .

Could the cap be modified to work on the different 70-73 models.............don't know.

72 never had a locking cap.
73 TX650 did (same "341" part number as TX750 cap)
Somebody has modified the tank.

yeah that looks like the "wrong" cap. yes there are micro fiche problems specially 72-73
Haven't used one of these, from MikesXS. It's easy for the latch frame to get busted on the early tanks.
