I'm offering my services as a designer/engineer (technologist level). you have an idea for a part? need a design that's manufacturable? optimize weight/strength? costing? need it to just look good while still functionable?

I have 4+ years experience in product design / R&D, use primarily SolidWorks for 3d work, still fluent in AutoCAD. Experience designing both billet and cast parts, weldments, injection molded parts, etc.

How do you charge for stuff like this? By the hour? Part? Job?

by the hour, generally, though some projects may be better suited to a per unit cost. 15-25$/hour, depending on the complexity of the job, (completely engineering a part vs formalizing a sketch, for example).

i'll also accept trades, barter is a good thing.
