If I am not useing the starter do I need the starter relay? I am doing a rewire of the entire system on my 81 and am doing a kick start only. Any advise would be helpful.

Nope ....if there's no starter you don't need it.

cool thanks, i will hold onto it just in case but tomorrow it comes out!
Don't pull the starter until after you have a verified, reliable, easy starting, smooth running at all RPMs motor. It's hard to beat being able to push a button during tuning, R&R work.

that is true! last xs didnt like to start cold....so I jumped thru hoops to keep the e-start on the last one and I can push the kicker down with my arm and it starts hot or cold...oh well
