I ask this question because I plan to make an electronics box for my rephased '81 and I would like both ignition coils to sit inside it.

Do ignition coils need to be exposed to air say like the reg/rec? Will I have to worry about overheating if I place it in a metal electronics box?

Thanks!

Pamcopete has always recommended the core laminations of an ignition coil be in contact with the frame as a heat sink. Some coils run hotter than others, so I guess there is no simple answer.

With my Accel coil, I have never needed to have the core in contact with the frame. However, I keep my coil out in the airflow, and it never gets hot after a long ride.

Every coil heats a certain amount, and putting it in an enclosure is just the wrong thing to do.

DAMNIT. Well, OK, thanks for the info. Definitely good to know.

I guess back to the drawing board for this damn thing. I need to let it get a draft somehow...

why do mikes coils have to be bright green?! black would have been ideal...

I'm thinking the Chinese like that color, lol.
