dumb question: bolt for tightening the clamp where the exhaust connects under the bike

I have searched the internet and can't find the answer....

what is the size (i think it's a hex) that tightens the pipes together under the bike?

I think it's the same size as the valve covers. but not sure length.

not even sure what it's called

Well, my '83 has a 6mm allen cap bolt. Not sure if it is OEM.

Mine appears to be an M8, about 1" or 26mm long.

....but a 1/2 inch bolt could work, just gives you less of a tolerance or working room, when installing.

i had to take the pipes off to change my shocks, and i either didn't tighten it, or left it in my pocket - weird, i torqued everything else.

Its part number is 91316-08025-00 which ought to translate to M8 25mm long.
