How does 76 MPG grab ya? 😉

Kawasaki is getting ready to release a brand new , really well developed, Hybrid motorcycle.
it will be a full Hybrid, not a plug in. Putting out a combined 69 HP electric/gas motor combined, in a 500 lb. package, it has very good performance.

“The 451 cc parallel twin engine is the same platform used in the Eliminator, but it does have some key differences. Changes to the velocity stack, exhaust, and ECU mapping result in a modest performance bump — up 10 horses to 59 horsepower. When combined with an assist from the electric e-boost function, it puts the Ninja 7 at an overall 69 horsepower maximum potential.”
Price TBA

Very interesting MM!
Have always wondered if Toyota would allow their planetary Prius powerline to be used in a motorcycle (or bicycle). That's not the scheme here.

Interesting reading. Definitely something i would consider if living in a large city. The thing that doesn't add up is the claimed 76mpg...... At 3.7 liter/100klm it is 63.57 mpg, (US),

Just realized the 76 mpg is in Spain. ... Euro Gallon not US.

VW built a 100 + mpg tandem. Diesel-hybrid iirc. Oxidation is probably safer than battery, and also less lossy overall. Oh, yeah, 261 MPG... in some claims. I myself would opt for a Messerschmidt with a 1600 VW boxer, heads and jugs peeking out from body, ie no fan to sully the elegance.

FWIW the old sporty gets about 55 mpg...carburetor is almost stock...however that's in steady not too fast road mode. Where we get into trouble is in the drag department and the throttle department.

The battery paper is, as far as readable, interesting. I prefer things that smoke when they go, rather than things that smoke but don't go...as in spontaneous combustion syndrome. :)

EV cost analysis from Texas.... https://www.texaspolicy.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/10/2023-10-TrueCostofEVs-BennettIsaac.pdf

The paper seems well reasoned and probably more or less accurate.... EV is, bluntly, not an economic enterprise, but a political one pretending to be something it's not...if I understand the analysis properly.

excerpt>
Setting aside some of the questionable assumptions used in deriving such
favorable economics for EVs, no one has attempted to calculate the full financial
benefit of the wide array of direct subsidies, regulatory credits, and subsidized
infrastructure that contribute to the economic viability of EVs. In this paper, we
show that the average model year (MY) 2021 EV would cost $48,698 more to
own over a 10-year period without $22 billion in government favors given to EV
manufacturers and owners.

CARDIFF BIN LORRIES GO EV................ Or do they?

Cardiff City Council recently made a big song and dance about acquiring 12 pollution free refuse trucks powered by electrickery.

Only they got caught with their pants around their ankles when these images below went public.
They charge the trucks using DIESEL GENERATORS! That will help the planet I'm sure.

In Great Democratic Republic they snuck in a federal rule over the holiday...road work with fedbuck must have plan to reduce "greehousegas" that might somehow come from the road... veryfunnyway to force ev onto highway by moving the gas emissions to someplaceelse. Cunning and brilliant physics!

Decarbonizing India... I call bs... https://www.itf-oecd.org/sites/default/files/docs/decarbonising-transport-india-worldbank.pdf

It's mostly coal, oil, and gas, with bit of help from the wind and water and firewood, uranium, and sunshine....the scam is Greenscam...

India could stand to reduce carbon emmisions by simply cleaning up everything else. US has a GDP 7x+ times that of India but India produces about 50% of the CO2 that US does.
Its not electric vehicles that will solve that.

Electric/Hybrid vehicles can not stand on their own right now but selling/using them is providing much needed learning to get to that point in the future where it can be economically viable to stand on its own. It may take another decade. Removing incentives for the wealthy in the US will only slow that down. That being said, not everyone is on board, (I still don't own one). But progress is being made and as time moves on, Engineers will solve problems because that is what they do. I would like a Plug in Hybrid but there is nothing produced that I want. I would consider leasing one only cause I don't want to deal with it when its 3 years old

It's all Musk's fault.
He OWNs MB BMW and VW ;^)
Shipping companies are all; uh yeah we'll let someone else have your EV shipping business.
I was a bit shocked when I insured the Prius Prime. Agent sez it's not EV specific, insurance companies have been losing money for years, repair costs/totalling vehicle costs also going way up.
Gotta think those companies are adding an EV risk premium also.
A 2018 Ford pick up that had water get in the tail light had a repair bill of $5,600.

I don't have the money, can I just charge it?
Bought a bunch of bits n pieces, installed a 220 volt charging circuit with a kilowatt meter and a 16 Amp charger cord.
Roughly twice the charging rate of the included 110 volt charging cord and now able to keep track of electricity used.
Installation complete and first charge yesterday afternoon.
30 amp breaker (used the old electric dryer (now gas) panel spot, ran/fished about 40' of 10-2 to the garage.
prius charging setup.jpgKIMG5341.JPG
While charging after a 12 mile drive. Pulling 15 amps @220 volt, the car controls how fast of a charge it will take, I think a max of 13 amps (after the controller) about twice as fast as the 110 volt set up. The kilowatt hour figure is cumulative and can be reset with the little blue button.

(revised) yesterdays trip mileage
12 miles, all electric, charging cost ~ 3.62KWH X 12 cents per KWH = 42 cents
3.5 cents a mile
gas 45 MPG @ 3.00 a gallon = 6.7 cents a mile
Amortizing an expensive new car? Oh crap. LOL
If this was an electric only car I'd prolly need a 50 Amp 220 circuit charger for it's bigger battery. Prius Prime 30 degree temps Electric only range seems to be about 38 miles. That leaves plenty of battery capacity for the car to still act as a "hybrid". An 80 mile round trip to Madison is a regular use of the car, drops out of electric only soon after heading home.
With 930 miles on the car the gas gauge is still showing above 1/2 a tank. Dash says 75% "electric only" operation so far.

Is that by distance or time in car as the two will probably be different.
I do 70% electric by distance but because the majority of out journeys tend to be local our electric time in the car is 83%
I think distance, but need to confirm.
