If everything is done and done well;
One healthy kick will light the headlight, even if the engine didn't THINK about starting. Yes with everything right it DID start with that one kick
. You could leave the kill switch off as a test. 
The turn signals will flash ignition on, before you start the engine. Maybe not forever but the battery/system voltage SHOULD be strong enough to flash the signals.
When it works this way, you've left the good enough phase of "fix'n" and gotten to the way it SHOULD be merit badge.
