engine idles high in neutral

My engine idles high once it gets hot. Idles around 3000 when in neutral or clutch is pulled in. Carbs are stock for an 80. No baffles in pipes. Runs fine otherwise just annoying at stops.

Is the choke working right? Have you made sure all clamps at carbs are tight, could be an air leak too.

Running lean in the idle circuit? carbs balanced?

Its probably a little lean, I'm going to try adjusting the carbs this week. I just got the bike so its all new to me. I did download the carb guide from here so I'll see. I just thought it was wiered that it did it when the bike was warmed up. dont see it being the choke cause its only after I've been through the gears a few times that it does it.

Will it drop if you put a slight load on the motor with the clutch?

Yes it does! So am I looking at a transmission issue?

A "lean" fuel mix. Maybe throttle shaft seals. If the mix screws are exposed you could try turning them out another 1/8 turn.
