Ok, so I'm new to jap bikes. I have taken apart the front calipers on my 77 xs650 and the piston and bore have a bit of rust (more than just a little). My question...is there a way to clean out the bore so it is still a safe and functional item and use a new piston??? Are there other, cheaper options like different caliper, etc? Or is the only way to go basically get a new caliper from mikesxs? I'm sure all this has been covered before, but bare with this newb, thanks.

I'm pretty sure the caliper body is alloy of some sort so it shouldn't rust. The rust you're seeing on it may just be transfer from the piston. The piston is chromed steel so it can rust. I'm pretty sure you can get stainless replacement pistons on eBay. That's probably what I would do.
