front fenders

I bought a really nice front fender on ebay for my 1978 Special but when I got them, it didn't fit. To clarify, if I bolted the 2 holes on opposite sides, the other two holes will not match up without touching the tire. Did I get the wrong fender or do I have to bend the fenders a little bit? Here is a picture of the fender that I bought.

Sounds like it's for a leading axle xs750, 850 or any of the others.....or you have a leading axle on your bike and that's for an xs650's straight axle.
You may be able to carefully fab a couple holes to make it fit.
