Hmmm... I had BS38s on my '73, and have always used 1/4. The inlet size is more than likely related to carb type rather than year, I'd think.

Yes, 1/4" will fit but if you are doing a stock set-up and want to re-use those protection springs (recommended), they won't fit on the larger O.D. generic 1/4" auto line. I highly recommend the line MikesXS sells. It's the same as the original. I also recommend their breather line. Again, thin wall and the same as the original so you can re-use those protection springs.

You can use a zip tie instead of the protection springs.
