So I did things a little different with mine. I added 4 inches to the swingarm and brought the top rails down to it to make a rigid. Does anyone thing this was a bad idea ? Will it be strong ? Any safety concerns ?
As long as your welds are good I don't think you'll have any problems.
I'm not a huge fan of the looks of the rear triangle though.
Why go through all the work of adding 4 inches to the swingarm and cutting out all the necessary stuff, just for half a hardtail? It seems like it would have taken just as much time... but saved some money on the tubing costs.
Agreed. Why not just lose the swingarm altogether? Leaving the bushings there and welding up the top side just weakens the whole structure. If you want a hardtail, just buy or fab a rear section and lose the swingarm.
One of my Hondas I hardtailed, I stretched the swingarm just like you did then fabbed and welded the top and lower rails, then cut out the swingarm. Cant sell the swingarm that way but it works in a pinch.....
