hmm mebby THAT's what's happened to me?
I've always liked my quietrides not least cuz with the ear seals inflated, having the shield cracked open isn't a noise issue.

Yup - I sure like riding in quiet better and the neck thing is a huge part of that.

It never occurred to me about the exhaled CO2 gas INSIDE the helmet though.

Got it... 2500psi oxygen bottle in backpack. QD at back of helmet along with regulator. Bluetooth controlled poppet valve with button next to horn button.

Purging in 3, 2,1......

On my dirt bike I wore a Bell Star? with Scott goggles and a race face. I liked the peripheral vision it gave me. With my road bike I had a full face helmet. To this day I hardly ever put the visor down. I like fresh air. As far as ear plugs and such not for me. I want to hear vehicles around me or horns, squealing tires, sirens and such. I also want to know the direction that they are coming from. Now to each his own. If you like being deaf and breathing recycled air and exhaust that's up to you.
