Help with rear Turn Signal

I've got a 1981 XS 650. The rear turn signals thread onto the stalk. On the front side of it is a hole that used to have something in it to lock it into the horizontal position. Looking at the other side it is not a set screw. Looks like just a metal pin. Does anyone know the proper fix?

I threaded a small, short sheet metal screw into one of mine one time to fix it. Yes, it was just a small pin of some sort.
