My way was more stressful and fun . I was desperate as I was leaving for a ride and couldn’t recall how much fuel I had left. I’m sure the missing key will show up soon. Glad I had a spare cap with two keys - if I didn’t have a spare I wouldn’t have done the hack job on the old cap. I’ll keep this in mind for the next time I lose my keys!
Bought this seal from the local dealer and it’s not the correct seal for my ‘76. it’s too small. Not a big deal, it was under $20. And local owners need a gas cap seal, lmk.
Sumo Rubber lists a couple fuel cap gaskets with the OE part numbers. Perhaps one is correct? I can not find any parts breakdown for a ‘76 or later standard showing that gasket.
If you can’t unload it local, I have Specials your gasket will fit. I’ll buy it from you.

Thx but shipping costs wouldn’t make it practical for you to buy it. I’m going to post it up for sale locally tonight. Do you know what years / models this would fit?
