I have a XS1B front drum I'm restoring. How do you remove the speedo gear. Does the bushing just slide in or screw in. I tried tapping it out but no luck. I don't want to do to too hard in case it's threaded in. I also tried snap ring pliers on the other end, but no give. Do I need a special tool?

Thanks

I think that ring in your 2nd pic with the 4 slots in it unscrews. Then the gear can be pulled out. I've never bothered removing the gear. I just clean it up as best I can and re-pack with grease. Looks like yours has a cable broken off inside it.

It's seized pretty good. going to have to removed it to give it a good cleaning. I found a tool that I need. Looks like this, but need it 15 or 16mm. Anyone have an idea where one might exist?

I would make that tool with an appropriately sized socket wrench and a dremel. Marker off the little areas that will act as the pegs and remove everything else...
