Looking to buy a set of carbs for a 1979XS650SF, I believe they are Mikuni BS38's. I could be wrong but thats what the haynes manuel says they come with stock. I have a carburetor cleaning/rebuilding service along with ultrasonic cleaner and blast cabinet so Im not to concerned if they are in rough shape as long as they have all the parts. If you got some let me know what you want and hopefully we can make a deal.
Thanks

I have a very nice set of BS38 $100 shipped:) JUST listed.

Not that it makes a great deal of difference but differences do exist within the BS 38 family of Mikuni CV carburetors. Those supplied OEM to the 78' and 79' BS-38's are most often referred to as the 2FO type and are somewhat varied from the earlier type called 584's of the 76' & 77' model years. There are several differences between the types with regard to venting, jetting and cv slides and needles.
The venting differences are quite noticeable.

From an operating point of view the differences are subtle. They are interchangeable as matched sets each with their own followers that can be gotten into if desired. 5twins explains the differences in a number of his posts and the carb guide he and grizld1 produced on file on this site and others.

The ones pictured above of Chris appear to be 584's to me. I have rebuilt sets of both and a number of yet to be rebuilt 2FO sets.

Those pictured below are first the 584 and then 2FO. For those looking for and easy to see "tell" re the differences....look for the external vents (with the yellow tubing hanging down off them) of the first '584' set. Also the absence of these external vents as the 2FO vents are now the additional (larger pair of holes) in the face of the carb. intake throat ie vents are now "internal" vents. Blue
