ID this fuel tank

Hi
I have been spending this winter completely rebuilding my 1972 XS650. I bough it with this tanks (see pic). From my research i dont think its from an xs. Dose anyone have any idea what bike its off? My bike was an import from america

:agree: Often the bondo comes out quite easily and the brackets to hold the emblems are still in there. Once you are 100% certain all gas residue is gone, a heat gun will make bondo soft and easy to scrape out.
 
Really that's great. All the photos i looked at didn't seem to have chines or creases in the tank. Maybe the paint hides it in some of the photos. Will go and look for the filler.

73 was a one year only tank. This is an original,
73 tx650 tank.jpg
There are a LOT of replacement 73 tanks, a rear seam tended to leak. the replacement tank Yamaha script is a decal not a badge.
73 still has the narrow early type tunnel.
