Hi all. I`m having difficulties with installing the carbs on a 79`engine. New carb rubbers, but the ID is 40 and the OD of the carbs are 42mm... Is this "normal" or did I get the wrong ones..?

Sounds like you have intake rubbers for VM34/ TM34. The stock BS 34/38 CV carbs have larger diameter, like the 42 mm you mention. And the BS38 require different rubbers than the BS34 as well
I now see you are Norwegian like me. In fact, I have an unused set of 42 mm rubbers, from JBM. You can have them for a very good price. http://jbmindustries.com/HOLDERS.html

Sounds like you have BS34 carbs? The BS38 carbs that were stock on a '79 have a 47mm diameter spigot. The 40mm diameter of your intake manifolds is correct for the 42mm BS34 spigot .....
You need to put some sort of rubber lube on the manifold I.D.s and on the carb spigots, then rock the carbs up and down as you push them in.
