Internal wiring

So, I'd like to clean up my frame a bit and am considering running the wiring through the frame. But obviously I'm a bit wary of drilling holes in the frame, especially the backbone. So I was wondering whether you good folk on here could give me some tips, do's and don'ts or just plain dont do it at all!

How big of a hole? If its bigger just weld somethin like this https://www.ruffstuffspecialties.com/catalog/FIXIT.html

That is one of the things I'm trying to figure out. But if I look at the existing bundles the biggest one could be 12mm and I thought that would be rather large. No welding skills (yet) I'm afraid.
