I am working on getting the timing dialed in on my 77 XS and I know that for other bikes I have had the manual will talk about setting the ignition plate at 8 degree or somehting to that effect. Is there a similar standard for setting the timing on the PAMCO? I am having a hard time getting it just right and was curious as to what others have run into.

Thanks in advance for any and all help that you can provide.

I have just "eyed" mine, and based on my experiences with kickstarting it.

In my experience, it's not as sensitive as people make it.

Thanks lassenc,

I will try to wing it. I am just noticing that it is pretty sensitive in regards to how it affects the idle speed so I was wondering if there is a "norm" or something wherein you just set it to that degree and it is pefect. Thanks again!

You use a timing light and set it just as you would the original points timing plate. Yes, the timing is given in degrees in the shop manual specs but you don't use degrees when setting it, you go by the original timing marks on the alternator and rotor.
