Finally starting my chopper build and noticed something unusual about the mag wheel...it only has 4 bolts holding the gear in place. Don't XS650's use 6 bolts? Other than that, it looks like a 650 mag.
I would wager XS400. Might have a limited sprocket selection with the majority having more teeth than the general consensus for optimal for the 650 streetability (read:higher revs=more vibes)......unless you want that
Great...that means that the matching front mag is probably from the same bike. I have a 1978 spoke rear wheel, so I guess I'm in the market for a spoke front wheel. There are always surprises when taking on someone elses project.
Yeah that looks right.
What size is marked on the rim?
There are some xs400 wheels with a hub that is thinner than the XS650 hub. That drove one member batty for while till we got to bottom of the issue.
What would I be looking for on the rim (I'm a bit of a beginner)? I would have to contact the seller and ask them for the information. There are 2 additional pictures from the seller below and it appears to me that that the rim will need to be replaced. The biggest issue for me is going to be the price.
This was a while back. IIRC?? the XS400 had an 18" front rim the XS650 has a 19" rim the rim will usually have the size stamped on it typically something like 19 x 1.85 XS650 spoke wheels ARE a lot more common than others.
