For Sale - Late 1960's Honda CL77 drum brake front wheel (19")

How did you make the 15mm axle work with the 17mm xs forks?

What is the brake drum diameter?

These brakes are less powerful than the 200mm 2ls front on the cb77, correct?

Drum ID measures 200mm(7.8") same as XS650
Shoe width on CB/CL is 1.18" vs 1.30" XS650
estimated braking coefficiency is XS650 (124) vs CL/CB 77 (114) according to:

I never had a chance to mount this as I just picked up a T500 2LS Hub to use instead - both are 15mm, I will just bush any differences out unless I can find a T500 front end.

I am believe the later 1967, 68, 69's CB and CL 77's had the same braking power and were in fact stronger(more powerful) than the CB350 drums which had a smaller diameter.

Hope this helps

They're larger than a cb350 which is a 180mm drum, but I'm fairly certain the CL77 is less powerful than the CB77.

How are you going to bush it? Use the 15mm axle bushed at the axle/fork mount?

Watch out on the T500 drum, they're notorious for cracking; very poorly supported at the bearings......

Thanks for the info - Looks like this wheel is not for a CBCL77 after all as they seem to be 36 spoke - this is in fact a CB450 wheel (40 spoke) which I think I will keep now. As far as mounting it, I will use a very slightly modified T500 axle or maybe go back to a stock xs axle and change the wheel bearings

anyone want to buy a T500 hub assembly - $100 plus shipping?

Thanks Again

If it's a 19" rim its not from a CB450, but rather a CL450.

There is no bearing that will adapt a Honda/Suzuki front hub built for a 15mm axle to the 17mm axles used on our XS650s.
