left engine side cover

xs650SE.. i took the left side cover out and a bunch of pieces fell out. a little metal spacer, a rod, and a circular gear thingy. i cant find a video, chapter in the manuals, tech thread online, nothing that deals with these pieces and how I put them back in! I'm on a week of research and at the end of my rope!

is this where the spacer goes?

It looks like you have the starter gears correct. Here's a diagram .....

A note on your clutch pushrod - the stepped down end should face out .....

Also, lightly grease the exposed portion of the rod. It will eventually get coated with chain fling-off but that could take weeks. If you get caught in the rain before that, the rod could rust.

Rod goes with the smaller machined end out or you'll be pulling your hair later! Note; don't fire the motor with that cover off, she'll spit that rod out and mark her spot good.
