So I hope I did this right. Here is my xs650. Just picked it up about 2 weeks ago. Got the motor(71 xs1f I think), chopped up frame(started as a 71 xs1 frame, I think), and of course a tub full of parts. I got a manual already and torn apart the motor a little. It looks like it has been rebuilt already. It came with a PAMCO ignition already installed and I'm looking to replace the charging system with either a Hughs or XSCharge, leaning towards Hughs though. Let me know what you think. I've already learned alot just by browsing through this site and any comments or suggestions are welcome!

Go with Hugh's, good service and backup.

Frame looks to be the later 74-79 Standard/roadster or could be the Special type, and the forks are from a 76C

I looked on the neck but whoever did the frame service put a sticker on it and the numbers have since worn off.
Got a question about the forks. Are all of the xs fork legs compatible? I'm gonna be goin for a 70s chopper look and want to extend the front end? Is mikes the only place that sells those extended legs or is there somewhere that I can get an extended springer? Rather have the springer but can't find any extended ones.

Still making progress

street tracker bars
custom seat
commando exhaust
chopped rear fender
no front fender
UNI Filters
TrailTech Vapor Gauge

Jungle Book bike... nice.

"Look for the bare necessities
The simple bare necessities
Forget about your worries and your strife
I mean the bare necessities
Old Mother Nature's recipes
That brings the bare necessities of life

Wherever I wander, wherever I roam
I couldn't be fonder of my big home
The bees are buzzin' in the tree
To make some honey just for me
When you look under the rocks and plants
And take a glance at the fancy ants
Then maybe try a few

The bare necessities of life will come to you
They'll come to you!

Look for the bare necessities
The simple bare necessities
Forget about your worries and your strife
I mean the bare necessities
That's why a bear can rest at ease
With just the bare necessities of life

Now when you pick a pawpaw
Or a prickly pear
And you prick a raw paw
Next time beware
Don't pick the prickly pear by the paw
When you pick a pear
Try to use the claw
But you don't need to use the claw
When you pick a pear of the big pawpaw
Have I given you a clue ?

The bare necessities of life will come to you
They'll come to you!

So just try and relax, yeah cool it
Fall apart in my backyard
'Cause let me tell you something little britches
If you act like that bee acts, uh uh
You're working too hard

And don't spend your time lookin' around
For something you want that can't be found
When you find out you can live without it
And go along not thinkin' about it
I'll tell you something true

The bare necessities of life will come to you"

Thanks! Yeah I've just done 100 mile today, pretty twisty back roads and my arse is fine! It's fun too ride if a little vibey!!

Tuning, carb adjustments (left-right bias) bar snakes, bar end weights, tire balance and exhaust baffles can all be used to reduce vibration and increase performance. As you ride it and learn more about it you will find it becomes a better motorcycle.

here's my short chop (bobber) I did, love this bike
