I spent many hours at my polishing wheel.I had my wheels soda blasted to get the old paint off then polished and masked for paint. I dont know what you have to do to get a factory finish though(mine shine more than a stock wheel)
Elbow grease. Get it clean, clean, clean. I had one with a lot of pitting in the bead area. I filled the pits with JB Weld and sanded it smooth. I polished the aluminum just like anywhere else on the bike. I masked it all off and painted the black. I used a rattle can from SEM. I'm very happy with the results.
These are junkyard wheels on my '83. The old wheels need some work.
Knock out the bearings. Remove tire. Take to powder coater. Pick up from powder coater. New bearings & tire. Tap rotor threads. Job done. It cost about 40 bucks per rim at my powder coater & they do all the prep too.
