I am getting ready to mount a stock gas tank to a frame that has been modified for another tank. The front mount pockets for the tank rubber mounts have been ground off. Does anyone have any other good ways to mount the front of the tank securely or does anyone have any extra pockets from an old frame that are available?

What sucks is that most likely those items are always ground off. You may have to fab something up to work OR look into another model xs tank that has the reverse mounting.....might be easier to mount a stud to affix the rubber cups to the frame.

If you have the rubbers, go to a auto parts store and find a engine freeze plug that the rubber fits into. Cut the end open till the plug will slide in. If you take your time, you can leave the side on and make the upturn to help the rubber slide in. Weld or use small carriage bolt to hold it to frame.

There will be some fiddling to do due to the added thickness of the frost plug, but once done, you will be impressed with your efforts!
Plus you will know how to do it better next time.

I had somewhat the same issue with my XS2. It was about to become a bobber. Someone cut the seat studs off.

My PO cut the centre stand off. What a pain to work on it using only the side stand! !
