Missmatched Slide Needle Preload Springs BS38 CV

Hey all,

So I've got a 1978 XS650SE and while tearing down my carbs for the first time for cleaning and jetting, I noticed that one of my slide needle preload springs is longer than the other.

If they're supposed to be the same (as it says in my Haynes) I can only assume that the previous owner was throwing shit together with high hopes.

MikesXS only carries the BS34's springs, are they the same as BS38's? A compatible swap? I'm kind of in the dark on this one. Any input would be very helpful.

1970 through 1977 carb sets use a spring that is approximately 4-5/8" long.
1978 and 1979 BS38 carb sets use a spring that is approximately 4-1/8" long.

Put a want ad in the classified section for another 4-1/8" spring.
