Just pondering if there might be a way to modify a stock Suzuki clutch release screw to work on an XS650:

If you look closely, you can see the helix angle on the Suzuki unit is a bit steeper than the XS. I am thinking it would give us the few extra mm of travel needed to fully disengage the clutch. I have lost access to the machine shop I normally would use, but I am thinking the GS unit could be turned down and the spiral bearing put into the XS housing.
This unit was used from the early 80's up to at least the end of the Teapot Katana line.
