Month /Year of build help, XS1B

Help, can any one shed light on the month of build on my bike. The frame sticker is on my bike, but has been painted over, tried getting the paint off, but took away what was underneath also, been looking at bikes what has been for sale trying to see if i can see the frame number and build tag, so has anyone got a xs1b with frame number starting 00856x , long shot but someone might have one close, didn't but the full number one digit missing, is it safe to say the full frame number ?.

You've got a real early XS1B.
My best guess would be 10-1970 to 11-1970.

cheers, Yamaha uk thinks it 1970 too.

10 and 11/70 builds would probably be considered '71 models. They start producing the new models in the Fall of the previous year, just like cars. Comparing your serial number to the lists out there will probably pin the model year down better. It won't help with the production month but should help with the year.
