I think I want to flip my rear drum arm to the top. What is going to give me the best braking? Here is what I was thinking.....

I've flipped several of them... I like the brake arm actuating rod to be about 90 degrees to the drum arm.... Works like a charm...

Last year I had the brake drum arm at 7 o'clock and the brake pivot was at 90°... from what remember it was good. I was thinking I would get more grab with it on top and the pivot clocked back. Plus my brake rod rubs on the frame rail but not if I flip it.

So your talking like this? And the drum arm would be set to be at a 90 when engaged?

Tomterrific has the right idea. The arm should be 90 degrees when you apply maximum force to the brake, to get the most benefit from leverage. But, it might not be that important.

Punkskalar I was looking at your BMR bike and you have the arm at 100 degrees and the pedal at like 160!?! am I seeing this right?

I have no idea on that bike... I'll have to go take a look at it in the shop. There were a few compromises when we built that one :) The rear brake works VERY well though.

:rolleyes:Did you get a chance to look at it:D I have a couple more days til I get to that point but I only want to do it once.....well once this year I already chopped off the one from last year.
