My first build and first XS650

Started the fender mock up. I got some of the metal bent and mounted. Now to move on to the tabs to actually fasten the fender to the frame. They will not be welded to the fender. I will fasten it with bolts. I also still need to finish weld the tip of the sissy bar and then grind it flat. This is my first attempt at using a torch for bending. But man, it was FUN!

Thanks, craft.

My major issue is I keep forgetting to turn on the damn gas on my mig welder before I run a bead.:banghead: Maybe I ought to just leave the gas on. Maybe the beads would start better.

Im going to steal your chain on the wheel idea. I was going to have to buy something to use for spacing the fender but the chain is free...

No problem, man. I stole that chain idea from a picture I saw, too. I thought is was a slick idea. It worked out great!

that garage is awsome plenty of space for two cars and room for a bike build!!!
i hope i have enough room for my build soon

Well, I got my fender done, as well as my license plate and tail light mount. Next will be the exhaust. I have some pictures of this, as well as my work space. But I can always use more room. :D

But we finished off the night with some drinks and a fire with the neighbors.

I finished the fake oil tank today. Got the wire access drilled out and welded in a shelf for the electrical crap. I also too another close up of the back of the license plate bracket, not that you all need to see it. Next will be the exhaust, and ordering my pamco to mount the coil and my remote master cylinder for the front brakes to make a mount for it.

Good idea for a suburban campfire to end-run some ordinances!
Looking forward to how this turns out.

WOW love you work. Might be the most inspirational build thread for me yet!

Thanks. I have never done anything like this before. It has been a great learning experience, especially redoing things. So if this poser can do it, anyone can!

The fires are great. We have two fire pits in the backyard, but roll out this old charcoal grill for impromptu stuff out front. Works great!

It has been a labor of love, and hate at times. :kill: Anyway, I started working on my exhaust tonight. I am putting a set of fishtail pipes on to finish them off. I have to get the 1.5 inch pipe stretched to 1.75 inches to fit, and then this will be finish welded.

I'm diggin' everything about this bike! 'Specially that electronics box! Great work! Might've been covered already but what bars are those? I have Biltwell Keystones but they aren't as tall as the ones you have there.

Those bars were built by a small shop called Solocustums. I think he is out of California. They have a 10" rise, 1" drop, 1" pullback and are 24" wide. And thanks for the compliment on the box. It was a bit more work, but I have more time than money when it comes to paying for off the shelf products that really are not that hard to do. I mean, if I can do it, well, you know the rest.

Even though I did not want blinkers, I found these small LED lights. I want no hassles when i ride. They should hide pretty well. I have to weld some tabs on for them. And yes, that is a dime they are next to. :)

Started welding the pipes and tabs on. Not my neatest work, but they will be groung down and then wrapped. All except for 6" on the tip. That will stay chrome. I will finish the tabs when I take the tire back off.
