You usually don't need to replace the valves, just clean them up and hand lap them back in.

For cleaning up the ports, you'll need more than a wire wheel. I use the Dremel sanding rolls, midi wheels (rubber grit impregnated wheel), and a couple of the ball cutters.

The 1/8" #191 ball cutter is the one I use most .....

Thanks man i had a little time before work yesterday night so i pulled the valves and had a quick go with the dremel. The carbon comes up pretty easily. Slight play in the guides and the seals were all hard and corroded as you told me they would be.
