My not a build thread 1980 XS650G

I drug the XS out of the garage and woke it from its winter slumber, much to my surprise it started on the second kick and didn't stumble at all. Normally it runs like crap for about 15-30 seconds on the first start of the year. The only thing I did different last year when I parked was a bit of octane booster and a half cup MMO in the gas in addition to the Stabil I normally put in it.:bike:

Got some new shoes for the bike. Avon Speed Master up front and a Shenko 270 out back. Changed out my worn out axle adjuster bolts for some nice polished knob adjusters. I think it gives it a bit a Vincent(y) feel.

What a nice bike...I looked at your early fotos and at some point the motor was painted black and then i see it was shiny aluminum..Do you plan to keep it black? Personally it would be a better contrast to shine it up..so to say...just my measley .02 cents

Yeah my father in law (original owner) painted it black in 81 or 82. At this point it’s gonna stay black. It’s to much of pita to get all that engine enamel back off. But it’s due for a repaint.

Well, the shoes have probably worn in with it set that way so there would most likely be little benefit to correcting it. But, if you ever install new shoes ......

The shoes are new, they only have about 100miles on em. I just didn’t take apart the arm or cam when I replaced them. I should probably flip it over.

Putting the lost center stand back on the bike, big thanks to @Jim for the center stand and @halfmile for the hardware. Got the new stand all painted up and pretty. Got the bolts bored, tapped, and cross drilled for zerks. Unfortunately my OEM petcock decided to let go yesterday while I was riding, so I’m out of commission until my new one shows up.

Well a leaky petcock turned into installing new intakes. Luckily I had foreseen this and ordered a new pair of intakes from cruzin image a while back. So now I have new intakes, new petcock, and a freshly painted and zerked center stand.
