My xs650 bobber/cafe build 4-5-13

HERE IS MY 1981 XS650 BOBBER/CAFE RACER BUILD "2012 WINTER BUILD"..
I LOVE ALL MY BIKES TO BE LONG AND LOW. I BUILD CUSTOM SPORT BIKES AND I DRAG RACE MOTORCYCLE FOR 6 YEARS. I LOVE BOBBER. JUST THE WAY THEY LOOK AND BARE BONES. SO I WANTED SOME THING LOW LONG AND LIGHT AND HAVE REALLY CLEAN LINES. MY FIRST BOBBER BUILD WAS A 1982 TEMPTER 650 THAT I HARDTAIL AND CAME OUT REALLY NICE TO. NOW FOR MY SECOND BUILD A XS650.

FRAME: 1981 XS650 THAT I PUT A BRAT KIT AND SHAVED BRACKETS AND TABS OFF"
MOTOR: 1978 XS650 "STOCK"
WHEELS: 1981 XS650 MAGS "THAT I DRILLED OUT"
GAS TANK: P-NUT TANK " WELD A GAS SIGHT GAUGE"
BARS: CLIP-ONS 7/8
FORKS: LOWER 4 1/2" AND SHAVED LEFT FORK LEG"
TREES: SHAVED "TOP TREE"
SEAT: BILTWELL"
BATTERY BOX: "CUSTOM MADE FOR SMALL BATTERY AND WIRING"
WIRING: CUSTOM MADE TO RUN BARE BONES"
SWINGARM: "3 1/2" LONGER THEN STOCK"
CARB: SINGLE CARB OUT THE RIGHT SIDE WITH A 36MM
EXHAUST: Pandemonium EXHAUST

STILL WORKING ON IT AND ALL WELDING IS TIG.
FOR PAINT TANK IS GOING TO BE WHITE WITH RACE NUMBER "29" IN PINK
AND FRAME,WHEELS, BATTERY BOX, TREES, FOOT PEGS ALL POWERED COAT WHITE AND ENGINE COVERS AND FORKS POLISHED. THNAKS FOR LOOKING.

Don't see much travel between the lower tree and fork. Do you ever bottom out? I like that low look. Same thing I'm going for in my current brat build

Here are some pics of my 1981 xs650 build coming along. Still alot more to do. Haha. Never ends. Still have to weld the rear up and clean up the frame and out to paint, powered coating, and polishing and then back together...

I am with you on long and low but not mid 2000 long, those 9 foot long turds were absurd. I think bobbers can be a bit cramped looking, a bit of length like you did is a good call wirth out going too long. Struck balance just right you did between length and height.

I drew on the dag bike thing too i know where you coming from on that. A bit of length gives it legs. yours is pretty low looking at the fork travel too. Great look you got. Well done indeed!

Time to finish her up. Just weld up the brat kit and gas tank tabs to the new frame and cut the new frame from all the tabs and not need it stuff any more. Shaved 17lbs off her. Still have alot more cleaning to do of the frame.. And then back together she goes....

not a fan of the stock mags at all (even though I may be using the rear for a while) but chromed looks wild I never thought of that , excellent look.
