Here is a picture of a Yamaha and a Honda front master cylinder.
You'll notice that both are constructed much the same. Internal spring to return the plunger, various seals and clips to hold it all together and provide the pressure.
No external springs required.
However there are some models of MC that have an external assist spring that helps to keep the brake lever in the out position and possibly stop the lever from rattling about.
If you have one and it is usable, then install it if it fits.
No big deal if it's not there the internal spring is all that is required.
