New Pet

[Downeaster]

This Heron has been hanging around the house and yard all day. Never saw one that would let a human within 50 yards or more. This one doesn't seem to care, I've been within 20 feet or so and it just watches me, might take off if I wander too close, but doesn't go far.

I'm going to assume a feminine gender and name it Charlize T'Heron...

Not quite that soon, but eventually. I assume it's a stop-over on it's trip South.

Nice! They live year round here, you see them at the lakes and golf course water hazards!
Seriously. The last house I lived in had a row of old and tall eucalyptus trees that lined this farm road. There were a bunch of heron nests up in the very top of those trees. Probably 80 feet up.
