Got the electronics tray bolted in and started laying out the components. I’m going to be using some round rubber adhesive pads where the battery goes. I also had a crack in my battery strap hence the zip tie fix
Started getting some paint laid down, a lot more to do over the weekend. Trying to take advantage of the decently warm weather and the quarantine alone time
Got some more bits and pieces painted today and sanded and clear coated the chrome fender and trim ring to give it more of a brushed stainless look. Tomorrow I will be painting the frame and then I can work on getting the motor cleaned up while the paint cures.
Hoser just getting around to your thread again....i like the way you are thinking and building your bike based on what you have around. Looking forward in seeing it all done. JC
Weather is supposed to turn (and I’m back to work - albeit from home) tomorrow so I finished up painting the frame and a few other items, the triple tree and rear brake stay arm. The VHT roll bar and chassis paint is great stuff, I highly recommend it.
I bought some paint stripper for the tank and that’s really all I have left to paint unless I decide to do the wheels. This week I’m going to work on getting the engine, fork lowers and exhaust cleaned up and then in a week when this paint is finished curing I can start reassembly.
I have new sprockets, brake pads, petcock, fuel filters, fuel line and needle stem bearings already here to go on and the new shocks, tires, and gold link oring chain are on their way. Only thing I have left to purchase is a one piece front brake line
The weather has turned and it’s far too cold in my unheated garage for the paint to properly cure so they get to hang out in our living room for a while
Hoser!
Just getting caught up here. First off, you nailed the fenders, I really like how you were able to mimic the look of stainless steel, very clever! And your frame came out beautiful, every bit as nice as the one I paid to have powder coated. Well done!
By the way, here’s a tip on maintaining marital bliss. I’ve done a lot of jobs inside the house, sometimes right on the kitchen counter and my wife was always cool about it. But the last straw was when I baked oily cylinders in her oven and smoked up the house....twice! She came back from shopping and the house was all smoked up and she said Get Out!!
Haha! Who knew?
Front tire is a Bridgestone TW39, rear is a Duro HF904 and the chain is an EK Oring. I couldn’t find anywhere in Canada that had a matched set of dual sport tires, so I went with two that had a similar tread pattern.
Got the fork lowers cleaned up to a decent brushed finish. They were in pretty bad shape with scratches and pitting so it was a toss up between trying to clean them up or paint them. They turned out ok, will have to wait and see how it looks all together
Stripped the paint off the tank, was a lot more bondo under everything than I was hoping. I had changed my original plan and wanted to just paint the sides and put in the round emblems and leave the center brushed to match the fenders....but now I might have to rethink that. Before I give up on the plan I am going to see if I can push the top dent out, it’s right above the petcock opening so I might be able to get something in there to tap it out.
