Hey man, I dont have a title to sell, but depending on the year of your bike, you may be able to get a transferable registration. I had to use a little creative license to do it, but it worked out and is as good as a title.
I've heard of NY transferrable regs given out for bill-of-sale and VIN rubbing. It all depends on the DMV location I think, you need to run into the clerk in a good mood.
Do you know where the bike was last registered? It might be possible to have someone do a search to find the last person who had the title and then have them request a new title to transfer to you. This of course would not work if the bike shows up on a stolen bike list somewhere!
I have also heard that it is possible to register a bike in Vermont with just a bill of sale even for someone with a New York residence.
You really need to do it the correct way because they have a law in the 5 borrows that any alteration that a cop can see is grounds for impound of bike. One day in staten Island they got 13 bikes in one stop because paperwork was bad on all the bikes. It took a friend of mine 3 months to get his bike back. NY doesn't fool around in the 5 borrows. I moved to NJ because the DMV just sucks in NY.
