I have been struggling with a timing issue. Finally bought a timing light. Long story short. It's a '77 and if I hold the plug cap slightly off the post it will fire. I changed wires with no change. What could it be? Is that a bad plug? I will pick new ones up after work today.

Yup fouled plug. The car magazines used to be filled with various spark gap "gas savers".

When getting a points bike going frequent plug removal, torch dry. and wire brush is just part of the drill.

Save your pennies and plan on a Pamco conversion. These bikes really are better machines with a HOT ignition.

Yes, you are right. Quick plug change with an old one laying around and it fired right up. Just need to adjust the timing a little, sync the carbs and it should be good. Pamco really makes that big a difference? If so, I will put two into my budget. Yes, two, one for each '77. Thanks again. The stumpier for me was that it ran pretty good before I started to mess with it. lol.
