So its time to deal with oil filtration and its many options. As I see it:

1-Use stock Yamaha sump and side oil strainers and change oil every 1500km
2-Use Mikes XS or similar side oil filter/cooler (Honda filter) and retain Yamaha sump filter
assuming/checking to make sure its not collapsed - minor drop in pressure past pump
3-Use spin on sump filter and do away with side filter - minor drop in pressure/suction thru filter
4-Use stock or alternate sump strainer and external mounted spin on filter - minor drop in pressure after
pump.

I would be interested in hearing from all sources as to what has worked and if there have been any failures using any of the above scenarios that are directly related to filters used .

Thanks

Hi chayko,
Improved filtration will keep the oil cleaner but the torture that a ball and roller bottom end puts the oil through still degrades it's performance just as quick.
Best you stay with the frequent oil changes.

I use your #2 choice. Its a big improvement to replace the wire strainer on the right engine side with a real paper filter. I been using this method for about 8 years now.
