Points Wiring

This is likely a stupid question, but does it matter which coil the wires are hooked up to from the points? I am assuming yes since it would seem the engine would be 180° out of time.

You are assuming correctly. The top set of points should hook to the right coil, bottom set to the left. There is actually an "R" and "L" stamped on the timing plates somewhere, don't know why, MAYBE TO TELL YOU WHICH IS WHICH ?????? Sorry, couldn't resist, lol.
