Ridiculous postal charges:

Two circlips from the Netherlands (Heidens) = 45 euros
Two circlips from the US (Z1 enterprises) $135
Two circlips from the US (mikesxs) $79
Two circlips from England (Yambits) £13
Two circlips from Australia (Geoffsxs) Bought some circlips from hIm, apparently he doesn't know there are different size piston pins. Same bloke thinks it OK to have 3-4mm of thread showing on spokes.

Add to that the cost of the circlips
Heidens. 2.89 euros plus postage 45 euros 48 euros $86Aus
Z1 $4.80 plus postage $135 $140Aus. $220Aust
Mikes $4.80 plus postage $79. $84. $132Aust
Yambits. £3.14 plus postage. £13. £15. $28Aust
Australia, $8.50 £5 $14. $19 but it doesn't matter, he doesn't know there are different size piston pins.

For two piston pin circlips, Circlips are 20mm round and 1.2mm thick and weight the equivalent of three mickey hairs.

Where the hell do they get these prices? Z1 enterprises are out of their cotton picking minds, $220 for two circlips.

I'll try some local bike shops tomorrow. Unfortunately, most have never heard of an XS650.

If I ever get to the states again I won't be posting any postcards back to Oz, that'd cost more than the trip over there.

I have some used ones here from XS 650's . Not ideal to reuse them but if you can't get new for a reasonable all up price just ask.

Those clips will go in a first class envelope (non machinable) international rate about $1.50 USD

Thanks, but after emptying the bin and going through the rubbish without luck, I crawled around on the workshop floor with a torch and two pairs of glasses for about an hour and found the two originals, then the wife wheeled the engine crane into the workshop hooked me up and lifted me off the floor. So I'm right there.

I'll ring around this morning and see if anyone has Wiseco CW20 in stock.

I have reused piston pin circlips before without any problems, I'm just a little reluctant on this build given the amount of work I've put into the thing.

Did you know there is a correct way in which to orient piston circlips??? New one on me, but it makes sense I guess.

They don't keep parts for bikes older than about 6 months old. Parts are listed by bike models. If there were alternatives that would fit from another bike, they have to get off their fat arses and go through their catalogues, much, much too hard for them.

Well, isn't that amazing, I've called them before for parts, gave them the part numbers and so on, they've had absolutely nothing and are not very helpful at all.
But I just rang them and would you believe it, they have two in stock.

I'm astounded. I can't even get filters from them, points, you gotta be kidding. Gaskets, hahahaha! I had one guy ask if an XS650 was a jetski.

A warning to anyone using these part numbers. I picked up two clips this afternoon. 93450-22027-00
Despite what the list states, these do not fit post 74 models. They are for pre 73 models.
Post 74 models are 1.2mm wire and for 20mm gudgeons, pre 73 models are 1.4mm wire and for 22mm gudgeons. I have two pre 73 circlips and these are identical.

The free diameter of the pre 73 model circlips is also larger, the ends touch before the diameter reduces enough to get them into the piston gudgeon hole.
So, you'd have to snip a bit off the end of the circlip to make it fit, the diameter of the wire is also bigger than the groove so you'd risk the circlip popping out.
the size for post 74 models is documented on various sites. wiseco make a 20mm wire circlip, 1.2mm thick, part number CW20. I have one on order from ebay.

The bore in the piston is 20mm, the clip groove is 1.2mm wide. The clip would sit in the groove for half of its thickness, so the diameter of the groove would be 21.2mm. Any more and the pin would likely slip over it, any less and the pin would push the clip out.
The free diameter of the pre73 model clip is 23.8mm, much to big for the post 74 gudgeon bore of 21.2mm without snipping a bit of the end of the clip. And then trying to compress from 23.8 down to 21.2 is not easy. .2mm might not sound like much, but the effort required to compress the extra .2mm is considerable.

If I'm thinking right the gap goes at the bottom. Some one correct if I have that wrong.
