Pre-1977 Post-1978 xs650 model changes?

The post 1978 models look as if they lean back.
Anyone know if the frame is different? Shocks mounted in different position/angle? Or are the rear shocks simply shorter? Forks taller?

I wish I had the two compare in front me but I can only judge from pics on the web.

Frame is different on the specials & special IIs 78 on, the shock mounts are forward and lower. Not a lot but different. Rear wheel is 16 vs 18" Those links are spammy by the way.
