Removing bearings

I have a stupid question.... I am in the process of removing the bearings off my spoke rims on my 1977 standard.

On the front rim there are metal tabs connecting the bolt heads in pairs. The tabs block one side of the bolt making it difficult to get a socket to connect. Is there any special way or trick in getting them off? The rear rim looks pretty simple.

Just get a screw driver and pry it away from the head of it then fold it out of the way. They bend easily
