A couple years back I went to a talk put on by Pete Best, the original drummer. It was interesting to hear about the early early years when they were still kids. His Mom started a coffee club, and the lads were trying to become the house band, but had no drummer, so Pete went out and bought his self a kit and practiced every night. There was 5 of them back then, Stu Sutclife, died when they were rehearsing in Frankfurt Germany. Epstien came to see them at the coffee club, told them to lose the black leather jackets and put on suits to appeal to the girls. And off they went, but without Pete Best, the sound engineers couldn't get a handle on his drumming style. Ringo came in, but on the very early recordings, he was left out and a session drummer used. Very interesting talk, and a lot of stuff most people have no idea about. And I am a Ringo supporter, his turn in A Hard Days Night was terrific. I was more of a Stones fan, but Sargent Pepper pulled me in. All good music, not like the shit out there today.
